Manawatu Activities and Attractions
One of the key things that sets Hiwinui Country Estate apart from
other New Zealand Country Lodges is the fact that it is very much a
flourishing working farm.
Aware that many international travelers love nothing more than seeing a
New Zealand farm up close, Dave offers lodge guests guided tours of the
properties sheep stud and dairy unit.

- Feilding Saleyards
One of the great agricultural stock trading centers of the southern
hemisphere. Sales twice weekly, Monday and Friday. Unique in the fact
that it is situated close to the town centre.
- Manfeild Autocourse
Manfeild Autocourse is one of New Zealand’s premier motor sport venues,
Manfeild not only hosts motor sports events, it also caters for
activities such as Central District Field Days, World Jet sprinting,
Driver training and launches of new vehicles.
- Cross Hills Gardens
One of the worlds finest collections of Rhododendrons. Established by
the Wilson family of Kimbolton in 1970, this garden covers over 7
hectares and contains over 7000 varieties of Rhododendrons and Azaleas.
Open every day from September to May, 10.30am to 5.00pm.
- Rugby Tours
New Zealand’s national game, visit the Institute of Rugby at Massey
University, a world class training centre. Tours can b arranged
depending on teams using this facility. The National Rugby Museum
is a most comprehensive collection of rugby mementos, covering the
years since the commencement of the national game in the 1870’s up to
the present day.
- Stock Cars
Over summer months, stock car racing is a regular Saturday night feature
in Palmerston North. Regarded as the best speedway venue in New Zealand.
- Other Manawatu Attractions
Gorge Walk Tramping 4 hours (a tramping guide is available for longer tramps), five golf courses all within 15 minutes drive of Hiwinui Country Estate, helicopter hunting in the Ruahine Ranges, Pohangina Valley and Totara Reserve, Massey University and research centers based near the campus, The Bathhouse, Palmerston North city, a great place for a meal and a quiet drink.
